Today’s guest is a country singer and songwriter. She’s my Louisiana sister.
0:06
Uh she just released the deluxe version of her latest album, Whirlwind. She’s on tour now. She always is up to something.
0:14
I’m so grateful to spend time again with Miss Laney Wilson.
0:21
[Music]
0:28
[Applause]
0:34
[Music] Dang, girl. You got that Deluxe coming out, huh? Deluxe.
0:40
God, how many songs are on it? I mean, it’s it’s five. Um, but I’m
0:46
already working on that next record. I’m already working on that the record before the record’s out. You know what
0:51
I’m saying? Like the next one. Oh, yeah. I feel like you’re just in working in the past and the future.
0:57
That’s it. What about this?
1:02
Hey. O. Why does that sound? It’s like telling a ghost story.
1:08
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That was the best. That kid that got under there and told that ghost
1:14
story real like with a flashlight. Yeah. And then there was always the one kid he couldn’t control the flashlight.
1:19
It was just like he put it straight into your eyes and you were like, “God, this a dang exorcism.” I just was thinking
1:26
about it. Did you ever hear any stories from the Myrtles in St. Francisville, Louisiana?
1:34
Like the plantation? The plantation. I mean, my mama took her gifted students down there. She did.
1:40
And she got some weird stuff in her pictures. I just I just thought about Louisiana and
1:45
Oh, yeah. No, that’s some of the kind of stuff. I mean, they I mean, first of all, being gifted in
1:50
Louisiana, I was in I was in some of those courses and it was Yeah. Yeah. I mean, you just got the full alphabet they gave you. I remember
1:57
like regular ed they were cutting kids off at like M. I’m like, what in the you’d meet kids they could only knew
2:05
words that had the first half of the alphabet in them. I was like, God, you got to That’s some Louisiana stuff.
2:10
But then you get in that gifted class and they had dang Uhhuh. 13 more letters in there.
2:15
Dude, I was never in a gifted program. Really? No. I was I’m too ADHD. Oh, you did have
2:22
it on. I mean, I’m like I never really got like diagnosed with it, but I absolutely know that I’m like squirrel squirrel
2:29
squirrel. You know, I was thinking about I wasn’t thinking about spelling and reading and No, you had 4 DHD, I think. You know
2:37
what I’m saying? That’s a I like that. That’s a real kind of rural version. That’s it. That’s what I’m I’m gonna
2:42
call it. Yeah. You can’t pay attention, but you’ll pet something if it shows up. Uhhuh. Yeah.
2:48
Me and my sister, we did show horses. I bet there’s a We’d walk out there like this. This is
2:54
like you’re holding like right there at the, you know, at the at the bit. Uhhuh.
2:59
And then so you walk out like this and then you have to like get all four of their feet lined up and my horse half
3:05
the time was a pain in the ass. But I think I got like first runner up,
3:10
something like that. God. Yeah. They didn’t have that. Were you in 4?
3:16
No, I was not. You weren’t? I was not in it. I think they something happened in our area got discontinued for a year or something. I
3:22
think the barn sunk or wherever they were running it out of a dang infestation over there or something or
3:28
termites. I mean a bad batch of termites came. That’s some Coington stuff. Huh. Oh, they took that thing down in a night
3:36
that barn. They left town. See you. Yeah, those things were full. I was
3:42
like, how’d you not see them leaving? They ate all that wood. They ate all that wood and just took off, you know.
3:48
Gosh. It was that kind of thing. Show horses. I bet there’s a um cuz a lot of women
3:54
put an extra hair. Do you ever have to do it or no? Put in extra hair on me. Yeah. Yes.
4:01
You think this is mine? I can never tell. Is that all yours?
4:06
It is. That’s it. You got that good hair. Well, it’s coming and going. You still got all your hair. It’s coming and going, honey. Something
4:12
will happen. I’m sure I’ll probably lose mine before you lose yours. You know, that’s just how it
4:18
goes. That’s not true. I bet there’s a horse out there that is so happy you are wearing its hair. I hope so. I hope so.
4:24
I bet there is just a I have a horse who’s turning 31 this
4:30
year. No, you don’t. 31 texts. And how is he? He’s good, but I think I just got the
4:36
last ride on him. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Did was he in the in your 4×4 video or No,
4:43
no, that wasn’t him. No, he’s in Louisiana. Um, okay. I don’t know if any of these pictures
4:48
right here are text. The one that looks the closest to him is that one right there. The uh
4:54
God, he’s beautiful. Huh? Yes, he is. I got him when I was nine years old. And taught me a lot.
5:01
Did he taught me a lot? He did. I mean, how to stay in a saddle, you know? I mean, he
5:08
was he was not broke. That’s him right there. Um Oh, that’s in 2020 back in Louisiana.
5:14
He’s 31. 31. And my god, he’s got to be getting a pension
5:19
now, huh? He better be. Yeah, he better be. If not, we better talk about it. Um
5:26
Oh, that’s awesome. Yeah. Old text. And did your sister have a horse, too, or no?
5:31
Yep, she did. um Hollywood and they’re best buddies and he’s I think he might
5:37
be like a year or two younger than Tex but they hang out in the pasture. I mean they are like
5:43
you can’t separate them. God maybe they met online or whatever. They probably did. Yeah. I I think I think I would like to
5:50
get a horse as soon as I get a family or something. I’m going to give me a little horse. Okay. Okay. Where you going to put it?
5:57
That’s what I’m going to do. Probably in the yard, I guess. I mean, I guess in the front yard.
6:02
No. That’s also some Louisiana Fence in the whole house.
6:09
Yeah, dude. You have a horse in the front yard. You live on a quarter acre and you got a horse.
6:14
Well, at least you got a horse. Yeah. Oh, God. God, dude. Yeah, I do miss being in
6:20
Louisiana a lot of times. It gets interesting as your life changes when you get outside of there, you know. Do
6:25
you notice it feels slower when you go back now? Oh, yes. 100%. Even in just calling mama
6:30
and daddy back at home. Um, that’s why I do call and FaceTime my
6:36
family so much. I just kind of, you know, you think about the fast pace of
6:41
all of this. I mean, it is like life is constantly changing every single day. It’s probably the same way for you. Um,
6:48
but it’s important for me to just call back and kind of that’s that’s what kind of plants my feet on the ground.
6:54
Yeah. FaceTiming my nephews who don’t think I am cool at all. Yeah.
6:59
I’m talking about the the oldest one, he’s six years old. And the teacher
7:07
asked the other day, they were talking about like the farming way of life and the country living life and all that
7:12
stuff. And somehow country music got brought up. And she was like, “Does anybody in here like country music?” And
7:19
Knox, he’s in the the back of class and he’s just like, you know, not raising his hand. And she’s like, “No, you don’t
7:25
like country music.” And he goes, “Not really.” And then she goes, “If you
7:31
had to choose a favorite, who would it be?” And he said, “Well, I guess my ain’t Laney.” I’m like, “Oh, you little
7:37
asshole.” Forced to do it. Forced. There’s nothing I could do that
7:42
would make them think that I’m cool. A couple more number ones. I mean, I don’t know what it takes for these kids, you know? I know. I don’t know what it
7:48
takes. They’re almost like the damn CMA voters or whatever. That’s exactly how it feels. I’m like, what else can I do? Please vote for me.
7:58
Kids are funny. My little nephews won’t even answer my calls anymore. I’m like, “Dude, what do you mean?”
8:03
I know. Leaving you on red. Yeah. They just It’s different. They don’t I think that they just They’re locked in their own universe, you know.
8:10
Um, have you guys You’re just getting married. You get Are you married yet or not? They ain’t married yet.
8:15
Okay. I’m making him wait. Oh. Making him wait. He made me wait. Yeah.
8:21
Yeah. Is that your wedding ring on? Yeah. Let’s see. Let me see that thing. Yeah.
8:26
Boy, when he opened on that box, I was like, “Yeah, I guess I do.”
8:32
Oh, I guess I do. I’d have been Dang, I hell I’d have considered it. And I prefer women, you know, that thing.
8:38
I know. God, where did he get that out of? He Well, he uh designed it. Arkansas.
8:43
He designed it. Did he really? Yeah. Nuh-uh. Yeah. See that thing again? Yeah. You see that? Uh-huh.
8:50
Thing would make Superman sit down for a half hour. That’s it. That’s it. We uh we got
8:55
engaged at George Jones old house. I remember seeing the video seeing
9:00
something of it. Oh, there you go. There he is. Mr. Hodge is right there. Good guy.
9:06
He is a good boy. He’s uh he just lets me do my thing and he does his and it’s just
9:12
it just works. Does it? My best buddy. Wonder what errors people make in that
9:18
type of thing. I guess I mean it’s so hard because like people’s schedules get just get so hectic. Well, for sure.
9:23
Does he come on the road with you if you’re out or does he kind of pop in and out every now and then? Like he he’s busy
9:28
doing his own stuff and that’s great. You know, like I’ve I always said like I
9:34
have to have somebody that has their own dreams and goals and motivations and,
9:39
you know, then we can we have things to talk about and come together and dream and I just didn’t want to be the only
9:44
one dreaming kind of thing. Um but yeah, he’s he’s awesome. He’s
9:50
he’s killing it. Yeah, I got to check in with um with Mr. Hodgers and see what’s
9:56
going on. You need to come out to the house. We had a crawfish bowl. I think y’all almost y’all invited me to
10:02
something. I did. We were having a crawfish bowl. I think it was actually Duck’s birthday. Do you get crawfish a good bit?
10:08
I don’t do it in Nashville very much. We got it sent up. Was it good? It was from South Mississippi and it was
10:17
it was good. I’ve heard it’s good. It was good. God, I’ve heard it’s good. Yeah. I I got to come and have some. I got to get some
10:23
this year. I can’t even believe I haven’t done it that much. We have some um during the season at our
10:29
bar downtown. Bail Bottoms Up. Mhm. They got a truck out there. A crawfish truck. Oh, really? Hell yeah.
10:35
Kind of sounds dangerous, but but good, you know. Yeah. I mean, I’m surprised they don’t get hijacked more by criminals and
10:42
stuff, but I think that’s just us from Louisiana prefer it. Look at that. God, that’s it right there. That’s it.
10:47
Oh, that’ll definitely in my belly. Get that salt intake. Look at the beautiful color on those. Sometimes you
10:53
get the dark red when the one that’s been like to hell and back or whatever. Is that the one that like died before? They say sometimes it died and got
11:00
brought back to life. I’m like nobody’s resuscitating these things. Like I heard the one with like real flat
11:05
tail. Yeah. Is the one that was like dead before they cooked it. Yeah. I heard that one got around a lot
11:11
in college, too. I heard there’s definitely Yeah. I mean, you hear a lot of myths about those, but there is
11:16
always like the crawfish that’s like way too dark. It’s like it just like at the color of weight. You’re like, “What is
11:21
going on?” And you just got to go around it. Yeah. You just got to sit it to the side. Yeah. Yeah. I feel you.
11:26
And there’s one sometimes they’re still blinking at you a little bit. You know, one of them still’s got that left turn signal going when you pull them off that
11:33
pot. I’m like, some of these you should people should not be eating, you know. Um,
11:39
congratulations on everything you’re doing. Everything’s going so great. Thanks. How burnt out did you get last year?
11:44
Were you really burnt out? Cuz I I’m not joking. Every time I would talk to somebody, I’d be like, “Is Laneie okay?”
11:50
Because it seemed like you were just as busy as as possible. It was wild. I’ll be honest with you. It
11:56
was It was wild. But like, you know, I’ve been at this for a long
12:02
time. I’ve been in Nashville now for 14 years. Oh, yeah. I remember last time you were on, we talked about Yeah. when you got
12:07
there and living in a your camper and Yeah. you know, the shower breaking and you standing in there just
12:13
doing a prayer circle by yourself. Yeah. And uh I feel like the last two years at
12:20
least I felt like like all my dreams were really just coming true. Like honestly tenfold more than I could have
12:27
ever even imagined. Like I knew I wanted to write songs. I knew I wanted to tell stories.
12:32
I knew I wanted to play shows but it was a lot and it was a lot of opportunity coming at once and I wanted to I wanted
12:39
to say yes because for so long I didn’t have opportunity you know. Oh yeah. And then um and then I said yes
12:46
and I was like all right I’m gonna do it. I was tired mentally, physically,
12:52
emotionally, spiritually, all of it. But I tell you what, Theo, I’m all right.
12:58
And I am in a healthy healthy place right now. I feel like I’ve had a lot of balance this year.
13:04
And I’ve just I’ve learned a lot. You know, I’ve learned like what you say yes to now might not even come into effect
13:09
until like a year down the road. And so it’s it’s important to like protect your
13:15
peace and um but also like you know roll your sleeves up and get it done too.
13:22
Yeah. It’s kind of tough because you feel like I got to you know you want to take advantage of stuff but at the same time you’re like I I don’t even like how
13:28
do I even show up for this? Well, that’s the thing, too, is what I’m realizing is like how important it is to I mean, your
13:35
cup’s got to be full in order to keep pouring out, you know, and then if you’re just pouring out from a half
13:40
empty cup over and over and over again, at some point in time, the dang thing is going to run dry. Oh, you turn into a damn methadone
13:47
clinic at that point. Exactly. And you don’t want that. Nuh-uh. You don’t want that. That That sounds
13:52
terrible. Yeah. It’s not preferred. It’s not preferred. And uh Yeah. But I’m
13:59
I’ve learned a lot. Like I feel like and especially we put out a record last year called Whirlwind. And I think it it’s
14:07
just funny how even though like music was the is the thing that like
14:13
how can I say it is the thing that like um was about to make me lose my mind, you know, like all of these
14:19
opportunities um is still the thing that I ran back to. M it was a thing that like helped me kind
14:25
of navigate that time of my life was writing more music and just like putting pen to paper and picking up my guitar.
14:31
That’s like that’s what I do when I was 9 years old coming home from school and I didn’t know how to, you know, talk
14:38
about what I wanted to talk about. Yeah, cuz you weren’t in gifted courses. That’s why you only had half the damn alphabet. I mean, I was I was writing songs about
14:44
tequila and cigarettes, you know. Really? Yes.
14:49
As a child? As a child. Are you worried? Look, that was a concerned look on your face. I mean, I think I’m worried. I’m also
14:56
kind of impressed. I’m like, “Hey, dude.” I have one that went like, “Uh,
15:01
my cigarette pack at 10 years old. My cigarette pack is empty. My tequila
15:06
bottle is gone.” Thinking how you and you gone. I keep
15:12
looking for the future, but it comes to the past. I don’t have to think about you no more.
15:19
freedom. No one’s way. Hell yeah. People would pull up in the yard like
15:25
coming to buy a horse from daddy and he’d be like, “Hey, sing them that song you just wrote last week.”
15:30
I’d get on the trampoline. That’d be my stage. I was like, “My cigarette pack is empty.”
15:36
Just you’re just just your big tail just popping up out of the back every now and then. Wait
15:41
till you’re at that like crescendo where you’re jump to get the high notes. That’s right. You do your toe touch.
15:47
Freedom at last. Freedom at last. That’s the best thing,
15:53
man. That’s the most American thing ever. That’s the best song. Look at that. Is that a picture of you in that
15:58
red and white and on top left? And I don’t know why, but during this one phase of my life, I was doing like
16:04
this underbite. That’s you. Were you a missing person? It looks I look like I need to be on a milk carton. Yeah.
16:10
Oh my god. Yeah, that’s me. Wow. That was our rodeo shirt,
16:16
dude. Those ro the rodeo stuff’s so great, isn’t it? I love the rodeo. I love the rodeo, too. I feel at home at
16:21
the rodeo. It’s my favorite. I was just watching Now I seem like a real creep, but I was just watching videos. There’s some
16:27
little girl. See if you found can find it on my TikTok. I think I uh shared it yesterday or maybe I have saved it. It’s
16:33
just little girl who just man, she gets out there and barrel races. She must weigh in 40 lbs out there and looks like
16:39
she has two jobs. Stop. She’s just a sad knows how to do it. Yeah, I really love that. Pretty
16:45
impressive stuff. Yeah, I love the rodeo. I would I wish I could if I had like a that would be one thing I would
16:50
like to invest in a rodeo team if I could get enough money and then invest in like a rodeo team, you know?
16:56
I like that. You let me know when you need some some more investors. Yeah, that’d be cool. Do it.
17:01
I love the freaking rodeo. You really love it or not? No, I do. I grew up doing it. Um my
17:06
daddy is still the the president of the rodeo committee back at home. Oh, yeah. And so it’s like it’s just
17:13
there’s something about it even when you just roll up and you you just smell it, you know? It’s like
17:18
I love it. We used to barrel race and we were PRCA flag girls and
17:24
and all that. So I’d ride in with the flag and sing the national anthem and screw the lyrics up every single time.
17:32
Every time. Really? Yes. There was a text message, you know, back when there used to be like forward
17:38
this to 10 people. Well, if you don’t, you’re going to die kind of thing. Yeah. There was a text message going around
17:44
the arena that ended up making its way to my sister somehow that said, “Did you hear Laney Wilson
17:50
mess up the national anthem? Send this to 10 people.” Yes. Yes.
17:57
Oh my. So, I’m like, “Guess what? You can’t hurt me.” You know what I’m saying? You can’t hurt me. Yeah. We’ve been there, dude. That’s the
18:05
dang gossip super highway. That’s when gossip just hit the dang HOV lane. Yes.
18:10
I can’t believe that that’s how it got. Uh-huh. Oh, this is her right here.
18:17
Let’s go, girl. [Music] Look, she said, “Get get the hat off of
18:22
me.” She not even playing, bro. Look at her.
18:28
That’s crazy. And she should do Door Dash. How does she not work for them? Dude, if she worked for Door Dash, we’d
18:33
be getting our stuff quick, bro. It’d be warm when it got there. It would be warm. Even if it was a cold item, it would be
18:40
warm. Look at her, boy. Incredible. Who is that?
18:46
I love that. I know. Little cowgirl. Look at her. I know. Dad, give her a hug. Pretty
18:53
cool. That’s great. Yeah. I love I mean, I just met like even just growing up in Louisiana, like did y’all ever have a parade in y’all’s
19:00
town or not? We did. Our rodeo parade. Yeah. Yeah. And we’d ride through the town and everybody come out and we’d throw candy
19:06
and it was good. It was. Remember those days? I mean, those were like the good old days.
19:12
Picking the candy up off the street, you know. Did you do a lot of like Marty Girl parades and stuff like that? Oh, yeah. We did Marty Gro parades. But
19:19
the parade in our town, they had like even the people in it would be like tallest guy in town or whatever, you
19:25
know. Stop. Yeah. It would be like kid who can walk backwards. Like the was like really nuh-uh. That’s some South Louisiana
19:33
stuff. We don’t do that kind of stuff in North Louisiana. First of all, they’re not that different than each other. Okay.
19:39
Well, I mean, they are, but we these are like our heroes in the community or whatever,
19:44
you know. Stop. No, we had I’m trying to think of who else we had and they would just walk through the
19:49
parade or like be in a car and be in a car and say on the side of it newly single or whatever. Sometimes if you had a little bit of cash, you’d get
19:55
your daughter out there or whatever. that I love. And that was that was kind of a good that was a neat thing I thought because
20:00
it was kind of showcasing the goods of the area. You know, it’s really not a bad idea.
20:06
Got to shine a light on it. I mean, that was kind of the original Only Fans a little bit was just driving some Stop.
20:12
I mean, like, you know, kind of more of a Christian Only Fans version, but driving a decent woman, buying a open
20:18
convertible. Yeah. God on the back of it. Yeah. With the signs down the side.
20:23
That was it. Decorated with the Christmas lights. Yeah. Miss Rabies or whatever. They always had the I’m like that shouldn’t
20:29
be. You guys should have picked it something else. Miss Rabies. That was always a little bit different. Well, there is. So, there are so many
20:37
like different festivals in Louisiana, what I’ve realized. And I got to hang out with them some. Um, it was like the
20:44
duck queen, the duck festival queen. It was like the strawberry festival queen, the watermelon festival queen. It was
20:50
like any kind of queen you could think of. Any kind of animal or fruit. The frog. Yeah,
20:55
it exists in rain. They have the frog princess or whatever. Yeah, they have like the um mosquito
21:02
queen or whatever. The armadillo queen, the possum queen. Just some nervous this thin girl just
21:09
just standing on all fours just shaking. Yeah, they had But yeah, there was all that in Louisiana. That was a lot of it.
21:15
What um do you notice like as your career got gets busier that like you have to spend so much more time doing
21:21
the career part? Yes. Um, and it changes like so like like is
21:27
there stuff that you miss from like the earlier parts? Like is even like little moments for sure. I mean there things are
21:34
different, you know. I don’t miss going to the grocery store. I’ll tell you that. I don’t I ain’t never like going
21:40
to the grocery store. Well, the one area gets so cold or whatever. You got to go in there to get the cold goods or whatever.
21:45
That’s right. And you got to run over to the other side just to warm up. Yeah. God. I’d be in there looking at something. I’d be like, I’ll be right
21:50
back. I have to go over there and just go like this by the cereal boxes and then head back over there or I’d open up
21:56
that little that little chicken warmer thing they got. I’d be standing in the rotisser thing.
22:02
Sometimes they don’t lock it. You get up in there. Oh, I’d be Well, I wouldn’t get in, but I put my hands in like, you know.
22:07
Oh, I do remember doing that, too. I’d crack the just kind of, you know, Walmart. Oh, yeah. Dude, I’m the guy I’m always
22:13
cold. I feel like I’ll be the guy like at a Circle K have his both of his hands in that like uh little hot dog spinner.
22:20
Whatever. You are lying and I’m not touching. That that right there is why nobody needs to be eating the hot dogs from the
22:26
convenience stores cuz of people like you. I’m not touching the pranks.
22:31
It don’t matter. I’m just keeping my hands warm. Well, they should have a little warming section right above that for people that
22:37
are cold. They should. They should. But yeah, uh things life has changed.
22:42
And I mean, of course, there’s things that I miss, but I also know like on a
22:47
serious note that like this this is my calling, right? You know, and I knew that at a very
22:53
early age. And so I I just think like with anything in life, there are times
22:58
when there are things you just kind of have to like give up. And um and so I’m
23:04
okay with that because this is this is what I feel like I was like born to do and made to do. And so, um,
23:11
yeah, it changes. Things change. Yeah, they do. I know. It’s kind of tough. It’s tough sometimes because you want to be that.
23:16
You want to be the same person, but also who you are changes and you grow up and things are different. That’s right. And, you know, like I
23:21
didn’t really like sign up to be a businesswoman or whatever, but you kind
23:27
of have to be. You have to like rise to the occasion. and other opportunities have have come my way and I’d be silly
23:33
not to, you know, to hear what it’s about and and take that step.
23:38
So, yeah. So, I thought when growing up, you know, when I was jumping on the trampoline and
23:43
singing freedom at last, I thought that I was just going to be writing music and
23:49
playing shows and bouncing around and um that’s not it at all. this. It’s like
23:55
80% business and 20% music, but I’m willing to do the 80% business. So, I
24:00
can do the 20% music. Amen. You know, yeah, it really is. It changes. In the beginning, it’s just all it’s mostly all
24:06
the music, I guess. Or actually, I don’t know if now maybe it hasn’t merged more like you have to make your own flyers. I
24:11
remember having to make my own flyers at home and like try trying to figure them out on the computer and stuff.
24:16
And um my granny used to make these little like CD covers and little stickers. and my
24:22
granny. She would make Oh, make little print them off on the computer. Like we’d burn the CDs where I recorded some
24:29
songs. Oh, yeah. That CD burner. Uh-huh. Dude, I found a triple decker CD burner
24:34
one time. That thing had three rows in it. And I was like, God, baby, we’re doing
24:40
it. Look, my daddy found a a burnt CD of ours that had Colt 45 on it. He popped
24:45
in the CD player and listened to it. You remember that song? Coat 45 to zigzag. Baby, that’s all we need.
24:53
We can go to the park after dark. Smoke that tone for weed. Yeah, then I have heard this dude.
24:59
Unless somebody stole that beat from them at the marijuana bar. We can take our turn singing them dirty rap songs. Stop
25:05
to hit the bone like Chich and John t from here to Hong Kong. Let’s go. So roll. Anyway, daddy put that into the uh
25:13
I have to have heard this. Huh? CD player and he about had a heart attack. It’s Afro Man.
25:18
It’s Afro Man. Oh, next time I see you, you better have learned every lyric to this song.
25:24
Okay, that’s fair. I promise you I will. I will learn. We need to play it at a show. You need to come up at a show and we do Colt 45.
25:32
Okay. Okay, I’ll do it. Oh my god. As long as your dad will dang twostep
25:37
over there on the side. Oh my gosh. He going to have a heart attack. And we’ll get the trampoline out there, too, I think. You know, I’ll jump on it.
25:44
Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Dude, I love this. I saw Afro man at a frat party one time up in uh at University of Mississippi and I he was
25:50
like so high or whatever on stage. He hit he hit a note that just shook him a little and he uh had just vomited in his
25:57
own hat and just threw it and some like uh some freshman kid just was like
26:04
excited. I think he thought it was just a hat, not that a hat that had vomit in it. Stop. And he put it on. No, he just caught it.
26:10
Okay. Okay. Okay. He put it on the guys down. He’s just waterboarding himself out there. But
26:16
yeah, Afro Man, that’s that guy’s played everywhere, huh? I guess so. He’s played everywhere. Cold 45. I don’t
26:23
remember it, but I believe that it happened cuz I got high. I remember that was like his big hit, you know,
26:31
Yeah, I remember that. I was going to go to work till I got
26:37
and those were the jams. Oh, those were the jams, man. That was it. But my daddy like he like tore up
26:44
the CD and you know he’s like yeah you ain’t going to be singing stuff like this at this age
26:50
but it was okay for me to write about tequila and cigarettes you know and be like hey play that song I guess as long as you were like the
26:56
person writing then it made everything okay you know. Yeah that’s right that’s right. Um
27:01

28:27
Bowl champs, the team everybody wanted to beat and nobody could stop. The heartbeat of that team came from the
28:33
players, the wild, talented crew, who turned every game into a spectacle and
28:38
every Sunday into a showdown. And the new Netflix docuer America’s Team, The
28:45
Gambler, and His Cowboys is about those legends who strapped on the pads and
28:50
made history one play at a time. We’re talking Troy Aman, Michael Irvin, Emtt Smith, and Dion Sanders, prime time
28:58
himself. They weren’t just athletes. They were icons who turned the Cowboys into a brotherhood, fighting for every
29:05
inch, every win, every ring. The doc goes deep on how these stars clashed,
29:10
bonded, and drove each other to greatness. You’ll see the rivalries, the friendships, the wild nights, and the
29:17
hard hits. You’ll hear it straight from the legends themselves. They’ll teach you what it was really like in the
29:22
locker room, on the field, and under those bright Texas lights. With never-before-seen footage and raw,
29:28
honest interviews, this series puts you right in the huddle where legends were made and where the Dallas Cowboys became
29:35
the most valuable team in sports. So, if you ever wondered why folks still yell,
29:40
“How about them Cowboys?” Tune in August 19th, only on Netflix. This is their
29:46
story. This is football Texas style. I’m not home a lot, but when I am, my
29:53
bedroom is my sleep sanctuary. Yep. I put my earplugs in, I put my prayers up,
29:59
and bam, baby, I hit the hay. And the mattress is at the heart of that sleep
30:05
space. That’s especially true now that I have a Helix sleep mattress.
30:11
It’s good. In fact, I like it so much I got two of them because honestly, sleep
30:17
matters more to me than ever. Especially when I’m on the road all the time or I’m on the go. The one thing that’s
30:23
consistent is putting my head down and getting some rest. Some hotel beds can
30:28
feel like you’re sleeping on cardboard or you’re sleeping on somebody else’s back and their back is nasty. So, it
30:34
feels great to go home and sleep on a mattress that feels like you’re being hugged by a cloud. That’s my Helix. If
30:42
your old mattress is leaving you sore, restless, or just worn out, it’s probably time to give Helix a try. You
30:49
can sleep great, too. Just go to helixsleep.com/theo
30:55
to get 20% off sitewide for our audience only. That’s elixsleep.com/theo.
31:04
And make sure to enter our show name at checkout so they know we sent you.
31:09
So, it’s Whirlwind Deluxe. Whirlwind Deluxe and it’s out right now. And it’s out right now and there’s new songs on it.
31:15
There’s new songs on it. There is several new songs on it. So, when I was writing Whirlwind,
31:21
like I was saying earlier, it was like during that time in my life that was chaotic when you were asking if I was
31:28
okay. Oh, yeah. And um and then I felt like after the dust kind of settled after I
31:35
put that record out um I had a minute to really just kind of like just get my
31:40
stuff together and these were the songs that I wrote but I still felt like it was kind of connected to the tail end of
31:47
the whirlwind. So felt like they were still in that family and so I just wanted to you know add a little bit to
31:52
the story and so they’re out. I’m so proud of them. Um one of my favorite
31:57
songs I’ve ever written is on there. there. It’s called Peace, Love, and Cowboys and
32:03
it’s uh it’s a bop. How what made you feel like it was your favorite kind of like did you just know?
32:09
I don’t know. It’s just that that feeling. It’s like when you’re writing the song, everybody in the room has has that
32:15
feeling. It’s like the Holy Spirit. It’s like you just feel it. Um and you just kind of feel like the
32:21
song’s gonna be around for a long time. Yeah. Even if that just means that like you’re gonna sing it 30, 50 years from now. And so that’s how
32:29
I felt about it. I was like, I’d be okay with singing this song for the rest of forever.
32:35
Yeah, you kind of have to, I guess, and you have some truck songs already. Do you feel like you can’t do any more vehicle songs?
32:41
I got a vehicle song on this deluxe. Don’t you even play. Hey, I’m doing what I said I’d never do.
32:49
Shotgun called King George. King James. King what? King Ranch. King George. King James.
32:56
All right. God, I want some of that. That’s it. Yeah, I got a hard like a damn F-150
33:03
hybrid. I think a hybrid breaks down a lot. Them will break down, dude. And they will
33:09
actually. Oh my gosh. Heart like a Prius. Oh, that’s a song yours. Hot like a
33:14
Prius. Heart like a Prius. Oh, Heart Like a Prius. Oh yeah. What about uh look up some um Laney Wilson
33:20
songs that she ne the titles of songs she’s never done. Oh shoot. Use Perplexity and see what they got.
33:27
pick up uh whiskey on a Wednesday. Look at twang in my bones.
33:32
Twang in my bones. That’s good. I got that twang
33:38
in my bones. I think you need an MRI, bro. If you have a twang in your bones,
33:45
I see moon like daydreams. My god. Is this what people think of me? Mason jar miracles.
33:52
Hey, those are some good peaches. Oh my god. Kissed by cudu just sounds like he need some damn calamine lotion. That’s all
33:58
that is. That’s a kiss by your cousin. Kiss by your cuds.
34:03
It’s just some guy who has a cudu rash on. He’s so um inflamed from the cudsy
34:10
you can’t even tell if you’re related or not. Kissed by my cud. That’s a good one.
34:15
Cudson. Make see if they make them sillier if you look up goofier ones.
34:22
There you go. Honky tonk hiccups. Honky tonk hiccups. That is hilarious. Yeah,
34:27
but it have to be honky tonk hiccups. Sand in boots. Yeah, that’ be the best.
34:36
They should have. Dude, there there has been a time where I thought I was about to have hiccups on stage. Uh-uh.
34:42
Oh, yeah. And what do you have to do to Oh, I think you’re supposed to eat a bunch of sugar or something, right? I do that anyway.
34:48
Oh, yeah. All right. So, I ought to be clear, but uh No. Oh, and then there was one time where I was
34:54
like, I don’t know what’s happening, but I feel like I’m about to burp. I’m feel I don’t know. And it’s just like you
35:00
have to just get it off your like somehow get it off your mind, right? Just like start staring at somebody or you’re about to sneeze.
35:07
Oh, the craziest. Oh, that feeling. One guy came to get like I was it somebody was introducing me to their uh
35:13
to their friend the other day and the guy just kind of came in for and as he’s coming in for like a close like handshake thing, I was just going in
35:19
with a sneeze. I didn’t know what he No, you did not. I sneezed right into him. Sneeze right into the guy. Yeah. And I think that’s like a mating call in
35:26
some cultures, whatever. I didn’t mean it to be. I But I It just was like I don’t know. I don’t Huh. He just kind of
35:32
went like that. I don’t know. What would he do? He was He wasn’t stoked. He wasn’t upset. He was
35:38
He was understanding, but it was, you know, did you say I’m sorry or just like
35:43
I was like, well, what do you expect? You know, so then that’s what I think about the
35:49
government. That’s what I said. So, oh my gosh. What are some of the goofier titles?
35:55
Bring them back up. Oh my gosh. Um, lasso my latte.
36:01
Oh, that’s a good one. That’s That’s what you doing over there right there. God, I need lasso that latte. Boot scooting Wi-Fi is pretty good.
36:08
Stop. Hold up. Gravy on my guitar. It just
36:13
reminds me Hardy took me and some of my crew to a strip club in Huntsville.
36:21
Mm- And they have biscuits and gravy night. Uh-uh.
36:26
Yes. Oh, that’s great. Huh? On Thursday nights. And how much is it? Is it pricey over there?
36:32
Well, he gave me a hundred ones and it was like, “Have fun.” It was like my end of tour gift.
36:37
Oh, it was. And you’re over there just buying biscuits and gravy. Well, it wasn’t biscuits and gravy night
36:42
that night. We had just missed it. This was like a Friday night or something. Oh, got it. But Huh. I’ve seen them do bingo night at a
36:48
strip club, too, which is kind of cool cuz everybody will get right up there and um be using their blotters and
36:55
stuff. Um and some of the Christian women would even blot out their eyes so they don’t see all the sexual stuff.
37:01
Uncle Buck’s Booby Bungalow. That’s it right there. Is that Is that what it’s called? That’s it. Uncle Buck’s Booby Bungalow. And they
37:06
got biscuits and gravy. What night is that on? Yeah. We’re going to have to ride on down there. Oh, right on down there. Load up.
37:13
Load up. I’ll take text for one last ride down atville.
37:21
God, I I’m trying to think of what food goes good with a with a good tit or
37:26
whatever kind of I shouldn’t even say but you know, anything.
37:33
Yeah. Well, supposedly I don’t know if this is true or not, but they were like, “Y’all
37:39
got to come back for biscuits and gravy night.” blah blah blah. And I thought, “Oh, that that’s nice.” You know, sitting around eating some biscuits and
37:45
gravy. No, they’re rolling around in the gravy and people are throwing the biscuits.
37:50
No. Yes. Oh, yeah. I don’t want that. My mother loves biscuit. Biscuits and gravy. If I
37:56
took her and you didn’t get to eat it, she would be upset. Mhm. Oh, this is Uncle Buck’s third annual
38:01
biscuits and gravy. Rass. Raslin. Oh, I love how they spelled rrestling. Well,
38:08
the recipe better be good because I’ll tell you this, if I’m even that close to biscuits and gravy and other people are
38:13
Yeah, I’mma have a little. I’mma have a little. I’m gonna have me a bite.
38:18
You telling me somebody ain’t going to whip something around fast enough or just something’s going to land in my
38:24
mouth? Honey, you dang right. God, I just hope it’s sausage gravy, too. I really like that.
38:30
Um, what about Halloween? What was y’all’s Halloween like growing up? Do you remember that over there? Would you
38:37
even trick or treat? Was it Was there not enough folks? We’d have to go to Monroe to trick-or- treat cuz that was like the biggest
38:42
town. We just go to like random subdivisions and you know, you know, go to the rich subdivisions. People that
38:47
had lights out in front of their house. Oh, yeah. I was like, “Oh, these people got money.” Oh, dude. We
38:53
When I got a pumpkin, too. We had electricity inside our house. Yeah. Like normal people. That’s right.
38:58
But some people had a light right outside of their front door. And I was like, “You got to be effing kid.”
39:03
It must be nice. Must be nice to open your front door and see what’s happening in the world at night.
39:10
Uhhuh. That kind of pissed me off, dude. I know. I know. But we would like some
39:16
years, like I lived on this one road that we just had a few neighbors and so we’d go like see my granny and we’d go
39:22
see, you know, the Olivos and we’d go down the road and see the Grayson’s and and would everybody dress up or No,
39:29
me and my sister would. Yeah. Yeah. Did you dress up for Halloween? Yeah, I dressed up. I had some kind of
39:34
alternative you or not like like our mom was always working so we’d have to get dressed up like our dad was like in
39:42
charge of getting us dressed up or whatever and he was like 75 years old or whatever so he didn’t know what was going on. Um what was I oh I remember
39:49
one year I was a ghost but I was like too scared to stay under the sheet or whatever. No, you were you were like claustrophobic.
39:55
Yeah. Or I was just like I’d be like oo but then I’d lift it up and be like it’s you know I’m under here it’s me. Like I
40:00
would scare myself you know. You are lying. Oh, I definitely remember that, dude. I was like, I cannot be a
40:06
ghost anymore. Um, what else? I was a wheelchair one year. I had a little chair, like a kids chair that we put
40:11
like around a rope on my neck and I carried two bike tires with me. It was pretty cute. You are.
40:17
I swear you needed to be in that parade. I was Dude, what are you talking about?
40:22
That parade that went through your town, that’s the parade you needed to be in. Tallest kid. Best list. He always got
40:27
his own car in that parade. Dang it. He’s over there just trying to whistle at people.
40:35
We might have been from the same town. I Dude, yeah, there’s there was something nice about that. Or somebody
40:40
that had too many freckles, they’d put them in the parade sometimes. You know, there’d always be some girl named Abigail or something that had too
40:46
many dang freckles. That’s right, dude. I’ll tell you something that was amazing was I was in I had a show in
40:52
Winnipeg, Canada. After the show, they said there’s some people here that
40:57
are actors in town that are doing a show here and they wanted to come and say hello. And I got to meet the people from
41:03
Little House on the Prairie. They’re redoing it. Remember that show. That’s cool. Yeah, they’re redoing it.
41:09
That’s cool. So, when’s that happening? Did they They probably It’s coming out. They’re And I got to go to set the next day, too. And
41:15
what was that like? Awesome. Was it just like even the like
41:21
the clothes and everything just see like from a different time? Period pieces. There they are.
41:26
That’s going to be incredible. And yeah, the reboot. You think you’d ever want to be in
41:31
something like that? I don’t know. I met the man who’s doing Charles Engles and he’s I would have to
41:37
be his brother that was in an accident or something because he’s really got the looks all
41:42
locked up. You know, you ever meet somebody like that? They’re so good. They keep all the good looks to themselves, you know.
41:49
Yeah. They’re over there just There’s a lot of people like that. Yeah. They’re over there looking at photos of themselves and I’m just
41:55
hiding from mirrors, you know. Exactly. I won’t just turn the light out. Yeah. I’m over there just buying five
42:01
watt bulbs for my house, you know, just trying to keep my own reflection away from me. Amen.
42:07
Were you in pageantss growing up? You were in pageantss. Yeah, I was in one pageant
42:13
and it was uh Farm Bureau pageant. My mama back in the day was the Farm Bureau
42:20
queen and so she was like, you know, I’d love for you to be in the the Farm Bureau pageant. And so the onstage
42:27
question was um what does agriculture mean to you? And I think I had one line
42:32
and I think it was what really sealed the deal. And I said, “Agriculture is
42:38
the backbone of America.” Yeah. And then I think they just said, “Give it to her. Give it to her.
42:44
Give it to her.” Um Yeah. That’s pretty much what I was right there. Oh my god. You won it.
42:50
I won the Franklin Parish one. Um that’s big though. That’s big, boy.
42:56
I mean, look. But my sister, she went through a little phase where she was doing some pageantss. And
43:02
this is hilarious, but she was doing the watermelon pageant. I think that’s in Rustin, Louisiana. And she gets up to
43:10
the microphone and she goes, “I’m Jana Wilson, concent
43:15
number three.” And then in the microphone, she goes, “Shit.”
43:22
Walks off. She definitely didn’t win. Yeah. But she won a lot of people’s hearts that day.
43:28
Oh, if you a dang casket. Oh, we had Oh, that’s beautiful.
43:33
Second. She was in another one and they it was a junior miss pageant and they asked her they said, “What does going
43:40
green mean to you?” And she goes, “Don’t pollute.” She’s off. Didn’t win that one either.
43:46
God dang, dude. Y’all needed what y’all needed was like a like kind of a
43:52
question answer groomer or something. I know. Y’all didn’t practice. We needed We needed a coach. Yeah. Y’all need a damn coach.
43:57
We just like had the bullet points. You know what I’m saying? Just one bullet point.
44:03
Yep. That’s awesome. Did you get to the point? Yeah, that’s it. Honey, we don’t not wasted anybody’s time up here.
44:09
Don’t pollute. Yeah, we got to get these crops out of the ground. We don’t we do not have time to waste. Yeah.
44:15
Did you um did you ever did you tune in with a lot of that John Benet stuff? Did you ever tune in with it?
44:20
I’ve You know what? Like I being a kid, I remember a little something about all that. But is there a new like show or
44:28
something that’s out about it right now? No, I don’t think so. And there was one that came out like last year,
44:33
was it? And I watched it. Yeah. I mean, I think it’s one of those weird things cuz like a a little kid was like just, you know,
44:39
like and so I started thinking about it. I think and I know he’s not going to be
44:46
happy to hear me say this and I’d love to have him come on the podcast and talk about it sometime. Uh, the dad did it.
44:51
Really? I shouldn’t have said that or he might have come on. Really? So, did they they did find her?
44:58
I don’t think he did it, sir. Did they find her? Yeah, they found her. They found her.
45:03
She wasn’t alive when they found her. Some people think she’s still alive. Um,
45:08
but yeah. Anyway, sorry to bring the buzz down. I just didn’t know if that was So, what year was that?
45:15
It was like early 90s. 96. Oo, 96, baby. Dang, that is so strange.
45:21
I know. Strange. But did you get caught up like that? Was there people in there out there where you’re like, “Oh, this kid, you know,
45:27
like did you were you guys that deep in the trenches of it?” Oh, no. No, no, no, no. We like went to
45:33
the consignment shop and bought up, you know, bought bought the dress they had. That’s the
45:39
one I wore. You know what I’m saying? Yeah. You guys were just kind of last minute pageant. We’re just like or double up. Like if
45:46
for the Farm Bureau pageant, I was like, I’m going to wear my prom dress for like I’m going we got to get our money’s
45:52
worth, you know? Yeah. So that’s what I did. I like that. That’s what I did.
45:59
I like that. Were you ever in pageantss? No, we didn’t have that. They did have a good But I didn’t have any direction as
46:06
a child and I did get to dress myself for photo days and stuff like that. Did you? And like what would you put on?
46:11
I do a tank top sometimes. I would do tank top. Yeah, I did one year I did a costume like kind of thing like a um
46:20
the wheelchair costume. No, skeleton. And then one year, one year I did do a nice outfit. It was kind of like a bow
46:26
tie and stuff like that. Maybe see if you can search that up real quick. See you can find me in a little bow tie.
46:31
Let’s go. You were like, I’m going to dress nice today. Yeah. Well, I’d seen somebody else dress
46:36
nice and I was like, oh, I see what they’re doing. Uhhuh. I see what these bastards are doing. Uhhuh.
46:42
Oh, there’s one. That’s when I lived in Russia for a little while. Different times
46:49
right there. Yeah. There you go, boy. Look at that ear pierce, too. Boy,
46:54
that hair. I had glasses, too. I was blind as a picture. That’s actually me. That’s me.
47:00
What a picture for you and I look the same. That’ be crazy. We brother and sister,
47:07
man. God, those are the days that it was fun. Look at that. Being alive, piercing your own ear. Did
47:13
you do that? Did you pierce your own ear? Yeah, I did. Talking about I’m a man. I I did not. I went to the Claire’s in
47:20
the mall. Y’all did? God. I was just a little baby. My mama got my ears pierced when I was like a few
47:26
months old. Uh-uh. Really? Brought me home and my daddy was mad.
47:32
Yeah. Dang it. You got it looking like It is kind of crazy. Your kid can’t even see that good. And you got dang, you
47:39
know, you got earrings. Yeah, like feather earrings. You got some big hoops coming off her or something.
47:45
Hey, what’s the youngest you can get a child’s ears pierced in America?
47:51
There’s got to be a two week. I don’t know. There’s got to be like a catch and release type of thing or something.
47:58
What’s the youngest age to pierce a child here? It’s two months. How what is it? Around two to four
48:05
after that vaccine, it says. Uhhuh. Cuz I guess that they putting that metal or semi-precious metal
48:11
through your ear. You can’t be allergic to things that are semi-precious.
48:17
So that’s it. When when you’re touring, are you choosing places to go now or
48:23
like what’s that like? Well, it’s kind of like mapped out to the point where it’s like I I don’t know how it is for you. It’s like we want to
48:29
try to make sure that you know we’re letting the demand build back up in that
48:34
city and things like that. And then um trying to make sure that we are going to different places, you know, kind of like
48:40
popping in some of these little corners that we hadn’t really got to hit just yet. Um so yeah, it’s like a it’s a team
48:46
effort of just figuring out where we going. We’re about to go back to Australia. Yeah. You’ve been to Australia?
48:51
So good. Did you go to Bondi Beach? I have not been to Bondi. Bring it up real quick just so you don’t
48:57
forget to go. It’s worth going. It’s like 18 minutes outside of Sydney. Okay. And you just take a ferry?
49:03
No, you can drive right there. Oh, really? It’s the most beautiful beach I’ve seen. That’s not like a super tropical place,
49:09
if that makes any sense. Got it. So, it’s kind of like a city on the beach. Yeah. But it’s
49:15
Wow. It’s a pretty Man, I’d love to do that. If you have a family and stuff, do you think you’ll raise them over there in Nashville or not? Do you know?
49:21
I will. You will? I will. I think Nashville is just a good spot. like even if you know music wasn’t
49:28
a thing, I think it’s just I think they got like good schools and um and I feel like you can go far out right now. You
49:35
can go far out enough on any side and still feel like you’re in the country, you know? I want to I want to raise my
49:41
kids like I did like playing in the dirt and um I don’t know. I just want them to
49:49
like be outside and and do the things that we grew up doing. You know what I’m saying? And like just enjoy those things
49:55
too cuz man, you see these kids at these supper tables on their iPads and on cell
50:01
phones. I’m like, “Oh gosh.” Yeah. Grilling like digital meats and stuff on there. Yeah. We we Me and Duck took um some
50:10
kids that he coached last year to eat Mexican food not too long ago and these
50:15
two little boys across from us. Sorry. That’s a great That’s like
50:23
That’s kind of like that’s a Louisiana way of kind of saying we’re having a United Nations meeting or whatever. Exactly. That’s what was happening.
50:30
Look, look, honey. Look. Yeah. But these two boys sitting across from us,
50:35
they were uh twins and they were just like for 17 years old like carrying on
50:42
great conversation, making eye contact. Like it was
50:47
you could just tell that they were like raised right. M and then I realized they they said they had never had social media.
50:53
And I was like, that’s why you can carry on a conversation.
50:58
Mhm. Dang. Dang. Well, a lot of people are homeschooling their kids now, too,
51:04
and keeping everything away from them, you know. Which I’m not trying to like, you know,
51:10
keep everything away from them because I think then you kind of mess up, you know.
51:15
Well, they said there’s pedophiles in the roadblocks now. That’s what I heard yesterday.
51:21
You know, that’s I’m And I Yeah, I’ve heard it. Uh-huh. They’re everywhere. Well, yeah, but I didn’t think they were
51:27
in the Roblox, honey. You know, I know they’re riding these streets. Roblox facing mounting lawsuits as parents
51:33
across US company enables child predator. Stop. So, I just want you to think I’m making that up.
51:38
Stop. That’s how I feel, too. I discontinue my account. I just only had it for two weeks. You have to be protecting and
51:47
watching. Like that’s what I’m saying. You could do homeschooling. I want you to homeschool my kids.
51:55
I’d love for you, Uncle Theo. All right.
52:02
Dude, that would be so great. That would be terrible. What are you talking about, man?
52:08
You would teach them something. You would teach them. You would educate them. Oh, hell yeah, boy. You would educate them.
52:14
I teach them how to do CPR. Uhhuh. With a unique style that a lot of people
52:20
don’t do, which is what a lot of people breathe straight into the lungs. I kind of take a roundabout pattern. What do you like people’s elbow on or
52:26
something? I say I do different stuff. Okay. Okay. But are you really certified?
52:32
Decent success rate. Yeah, I’m certified in CPR, honey. Are you really? I need to see like a
52:37
badge or something. I don’t believe it. Hey, hey, hey. I’m deputized. Did you know that?
52:44
I can believe that. Oh, look. I’m deputized. Are you? Yes. Just by somebody in town that was a
52:49
sheriff gave you one in Richland Parish. They asked my daddy to be a deputy. You better quit. And uh
52:57
and then daddy was like, “I’ll do it if Laney can do it.” Yeah. I love that. I went up there and got sworn in.
53:04
Did you? I love that, dude. I was at a Vols game like probably a year and a half ago and some guy up there some and
53:10
I will say he was I don’t want to say he was an alcoholic but he had drunk a lot and he probably drunk most of his life.
53:15
And um you could tell cuz some of his kids didn’t even talk to him or whatever. But anyway, what I was saying was he was like kind of uh he was
53:23
getting drunk and I said I I’m going to go downstairs and say to somebody and he goes, “Well, look man, if you have any
53:29
trouble down there,” he goes, “I’m a sheriff. Just flash my badge.” You know, so this guy gave me a sheriff’s badge,
53:35
right? Stop. I swear. So, I didn’t know how they work or whatever. So, I’m down there talking and then something happened in this area
53:42
where like some people started like we’re kind of talking to each other and stuff. So, I just break this thing
53:47
out, right? That’s where you had to run from Moonside. No, I didn’t do that, dude.
53:54
I’m not a cop. I’m a sheriff, dude. I’m just Sheriff’s
53:59
just raise the badge. That’s right. That’s right. That’s right. That’s right. Yeah. And then they go get something to eat. You know what I’m saying?
54:05
Yes. But I flashed that thing and then a real cop a female a police officer kind of
54:12
like pushed me up against the wall and she’s like, “What’s going on here?” And they she like uh was like reprimanding
54:19
me for having a fake uh identification or whatever. And I was like, “The guy gave it to me, you know, but it was
54:26
spooky for a minute. I thought they were going to take me.” You thought you were really about to get in trouble. Yeah, it was like that.
54:32
When was that? probably two years ago or maybe a year and a half. I think they were playing Georgia or something and they got their
54:38
they got their tails kicked. Uh Tennessee did. But yeah, but I remember like God that guy’s the worst sheriff
54:45
whatever. Like he didn’t even he didn’t give me any He’s just like Yeah. Like he could have told you. Yeah. If you got a piss somewhere or
54:51
just whatever that gets heavy, you flash this And I flash that and they just
54:59
Oh my god. Right up against the wall that lady had me. I was pretty nervous, but I respect her. She’s doing her job right there.
55:04
That’s right. Um Oh, that doesn’t look like me. That looks like a First of all, that looks like a pretty decent looking woman in
55:11
the town I’m from. I will say that. Oh, I remember them haircuts. Yes.
55:17
Oh, god. Yeah. Well, we had our bus driver. We cut everybody’s hair. Your bus driver cut people’s hair?
55:22
Mr. Ray? Yeah. He cut his he had a barber shop. I don’t know if he had a barber shop, but he had I thought you meant as y’all were walking off the bus, he just
55:28
he would pull over probably six times a year. He had those he’d have those clippers going. He get everybody in
55:35
there cut up. You are lying. 40 minutes. He’d cut everybody on that thing. That is hilarious.
55:40
He’d walk right off that thing. Everybody be looking slick walking off there. Pretty slick enough with their ears lowered.
55:46
And the best thing is if everybody looks the same, nobody looks better or worse. You ever had like a real bad haircut?
55:54
[Laughter] I mean, like a real real bad haircut. I mean, yeah, I’ve had almost all of
56:00
them. I think if you just look through pictures of me online, you’ll see them. You’re right. You’re right. I’ve had one. Yeah. I went to that Robert’s Beauty College or something
56:07
that was in our town and they were running a special was like 75 cents to get your haircut. And I was
56:12
like, well, at that price, I got to go over there 100%. You got to see what it’s about. They It must just be a great deal. And
56:20
so, I got in there. I got in there, dude. And they were letting people that were just like I don’t even know if they
56:26
were haircuts. Some of them were just like recovering mechanics and stuff. They were letting anybody recovering mechanics. Anybody who could keep their hands
56:32
stable enough in that They put a pair of scissors in them and yeah, they did stuff to me. Man, I can’t I still
56:38
will never be the same. I walked out of there and I had to walk home. It was about two and a half miles and the whole time I was so just depressed and I kept
56:45
trying to get a good reflection in my head and different things I was walking by. Dude, a bad haircut. Like a real bad
56:50
haircut. Mhm. Can it can be painful. Well, especially as a man cuz it’s like
56:56
you don’t have as a man, you’re not going to grow breasts or you can’t wear
57:01
lipstick. So, like you were down 02 in your chances of That’s right. And then you just got to
57:07
wait for it to grow back. Yeah. So, you have one item going on. You know, maybe you can do eye drops,
57:12
but otherwise it is a haircut. It is a haircut. Duck dyed his hair bleach blonde as a joke.
57:19
Just like as a joke. joke was it? Well, I don’t know, but I’m going to tell you right now, I didn’t think it was funny. I didn’t think it was funny.
57:26
I said, “You better sleep with a ball cap on until that thing grows out.” Now it’s starting to look like Frosted
57:32
Tips. Uh-uh. Really? Well, take him down to damn Panama City and let him make a little bit of That’s where he did it.
57:37
Nuh-uh. As a joke, we were playing Panama City and my mama and his mama and him like
57:42
had this bright idea and they all got it done. No, they just did his. They just did his. And uh they videoed
57:52
my uh reaction to seeing it. They did. And it was like, “Let me if you can find it. Pull that
57:57
up. I want to see that.” My mouth is wide open. I was like, “Uh-uh. Nope. The wedding’s off. Wedding’s off, bro.
58:05
Wedd’s off, bro. Who’s going to play at your wedding? Do you have to play at your own wedding if
58:10
you’re like a really good musician?” No. No. I I don’t I don’t want it to be
58:16
about I want it to be about what it’s supposed to be about that day. You know what I’m saying? Oh yeah. Like the love the nuptials.
58:21
Now I might like write him a song or something and like like share it later on or whatever
58:27
before. But like I don’t know. I’m just like Yeah. I just didn’t know if you have to
58:33
play it your own. I never thought about that. I’m not I want to have some kind of like jazz band or something like that.
58:39
Oh, Big X the plug. Big X the plug. He could do it. Which I loved y’all’s interview.
58:45
Yeah, he’s great. He is great. We went and watched a show in Nashville when he was there. It was fun. He was
58:50
Yeah. The whole Yeah. It’s just like It’s great energy, you know. Where was he playing? He was playing over at um
58:56
Not Brooklyn Bowl. You’re not You’re talking about Brooklyn Bowl. Yep. He was playing at Brooklyn Bowl. Got it. Yeah. It was good. I saw Red Clay Trace.
59:04
Where’d I see them at? They are so good. I saw a video of you guys singing. Right. You and Brandon.
59:09
Yep. In Canada. Yeah. He’s He’s the real deal. Oh. I mean, they put on a hell of a
59:16
show. I’m just a fan. I’ve Yeah. I think that uh it’s just like timeless.
59:22
It’s like they stepped out of another like time and they’re just doing something so different.
59:28
I don’t know. I’m just a big old fan. And their audience is a lot of men too
59:33
are their fans. I realized. Yes. Yeah. Let me see a little bit of that. [Music]
59:43
That’s cool. [Music]
59:49
Midnight every night to the man from Galilee. He spoke to me
59:57
when a voice so sweet. My daughter. [Music]
1:00:10
Oh, pass the hat. I’ll put some money in that. I’ll put my second born in that hat.
1:00:17
Uh-huh. That’s special, huh? Yeah. He’s He’s cool.
1:00:23
Have you guys done a song together? No. Do you like to do a lot of collaborations like that or do you not like it? Well, no. It seems to be really hot right now,
1:00:29
too. I love collaborations, but I was doing a bunch of collaborations there for a minute. Oh, that’s right. You did. I know the
1:00:34
one with Hardy that I loved. Waiting a truck. Oh, I forgot that was in the truck, too.
1:00:40
Truck truck. Look, sorry to say that. I didn’t I look I don’t care if you say it. God, I don’t
1:00:45
care if I just I don’t care if you every one of your songs talks about an CarMax. I’m still going to listen to one, you
1:00:51
know. Well, I ain’t going to do that. Okay. Okay. I ain’t going to do that. I ain’t going to do that. I forgot about weight in the

1:01:03

1:01:10
damn little 50cc motorcycle, honey. Yeah, I got a heart. Got a damn outboard
1:01:18
motor on it. I got a heart. Oh my gosh. I got a heart that’s got
1:01:25
that’s got damn training wheels on it. My nephew just facetimed me the other day. Did he not?
1:01:31
With no training with Ledger. That’s the four-year-old. He was like, “Call ain’t whiny.” So, right when I think they
1:01:37
don’t love me, he says stuff like that to my sister. They tap in like call ain’t whiny and show her.
1:01:43

1:04:27
You know I’m on the go constantly. I’m going baby. That’s me. And it can be
1:04:33
tough when you’re also running a business. Going and running. Going and running. Because one thing I don’t have
1:04:39
time for is messing around with a bunch of complicated systems or confusing databases or information templates just
1:04:46
to sell merchandise. Nope. What’s really helped me is running my merch through
1:04:51
Shopify. They save the day. It doesn’t matter if I’m backstage, I’m in an airport, I’m in the middle of nowhere or
1:04:58
somewhere or if I’m between nowhere and somewhere, I can pull up Shopify on my phone and see what’s going on. And
1:05:05
Shopify has this new AI assistant called Sidekick. It feels like a little robot
1:05:10
intern that actually cares. It helps you figure out your next move, gives you reports, edits images, even throws you
1:05:17
content ideas. It’s like they got a little wizard in there making everything smooth. So, if you’re ready to build
1:05:23
your own empire, whether it’s merch, a new product, or the next best idea, get
1:05:28
on shopify.com/to and make it happen. That’s
1:05:34
shopify.com/theo. Yeah, I think it would be fun to like
1:05:40
teach a kid something cool, you know? If I had me a little kid, I think I would do homeschooling. If my wife wants to do
1:05:46
homeschooling, I would be for it, but I don’t want the homeschool kid that stays at home and never meets any kids,
1:05:53
even on the weekend or whatever. I’m gonna set your ass up. Let me Let me think of who I can set you up. I’m gonna
1:05:58
set you up. Oh, yeah. Thanks. What’s your type?
1:06:03
woman. Just a full grown woman. Yeah. I mean, yeah, obviously. Uh but
1:06:09
yeah, adult woman. Adult, positive attitude, warm eyes, wants to
1:06:16
be a mom. Okay. What else? Hard worker. Okay. Right. So, a nurse I think I would like,
1:06:23
but I think I may just say that because of hard worker. Yep. But, okay. I got to pray a little bit more
1:06:30
about it, too, and just help get my kind of sights lined up, you know? Let
1:06:35
the Lord kind of I’m gonna tell you right now, he can. Yeah, he can. He I’ll be praying for it, too.
1:06:43
Yeah. Thanks. Cuz I I You can meet people, but you got to like, you know, you just got to meet the right one. And
1:06:48
some you just got to be patient, too. That’s right. And he’ll make it clear, right? He always does. I always heard that wah
1:06:55
wah ww wah about you know when you know and all stuff but like I I do believe it now.
1:07:02
Did you lock Did you make like a little um list? List or altar or whatever?
1:07:08
An altar or like a Yeah. Yeah. I made a list of like I went through some doozies.
1:07:15
I’m talking about like stuff I’m I’m embarrassed about now. You know what I’m saying? I’m sorry. God bless you. Um but
1:07:22
embarrassed to think that I let somebody do me that way. Yeah. And then uh and then met somebody who
1:07:30
just would never in a million years. But I did like I I took a few years to
1:07:35
myself. Didn’t even go on a date. Like but also nobody asked me out either.
1:07:41
Like wouldn’t nobody asked me out. God. And um but those years were like
1:07:46
really important for me and I figured out I’m like okay like no more playing around like I’m I’m the next person I’m
1:07:53
dating like it’s got to be I’m not going to spend a few years of my life with this person if it’s not like going in
1:07:59
the direction that that it’s supposed to. And um so I I was like, “Okay, yes,
1:08:05
I want somebody who is like you just said, like hardworking.” And I hate to say that this is even a quality on my
1:08:11
list, but loyal, you know, that should just be that should just be Yeah.
1:08:17
You know, it shouldn’t be a quality. Um it is kind of true.
1:08:22
We’ve gotten to a sad place here. I know that I’m going to be their only spouse.
1:08:27
Yeah, I would love to be their only spouse. Um, but yeah, I think like write it down and
1:08:33
yeah, I just have to be more intentional about it, you know? I’ve been get I’ve been I’ve done some of that, but I want to do I want to do
1:08:39
even more of it because I want to see how fine-tuned could you get that arrow, you know, if you really locked in with
1:08:44
some intention, but I do notice myself not spending time like a lot of times like wasting it in areas, you know,
1:08:50
or trying not to spend my time wasting it in certain areas, you know. Yes. It’s just kind of like cutting the
1:08:56
crap. Yeah. Yeah. And I think that’s a big step right there, right? Is you deciding Yeah.
1:09:03
is just being like just no more. I want something. And then only only the real thing can
1:09:09
find you at that point. Yeah. You going you going to find somebody. She going to be bad ass.
1:09:15
She better be. I’ll tell you, I’m already pissed at her a little. Oh, are you? Yeah. Yeah. I’m mad at her, too.
1:09:21
Thank you. I got a couple notes in my phone. I’m texting her right whenever I get her number.
1:09:26
That’s it. cuz I’m definitely got she’s going to have to be I’m just trying to like envision what this chick
1:09:33
is going to be like. She better work out of town sometimes. I’m telling you that. Okay.
1:09:42
Cuz I don’t want her messing my house up. That’s it. That’s it. That’s it.
1:09:47
I think the big thing I realized I want kids I want to be able to have kids that have like a comfort a nice like a
1:09:53
emotionally well upbringing. So, that’s what I need. Like an emotionally well woman. Just a good girl. Like just
1:09:59
Yeah. Wellrounded. Yeah. We’ll find it. Maybe she has a couple animals or something. Or we could
1:10:04
get some animals. Cuz sometimes you meet a woman, they already got too many animals. You could see they’re trying to do their own
1:10:10
little zoo or something. Yeah. Put that horse in the front yard on on a front porch. You know,
1:10:15
that’s how that’s how y’all going to live. Well, that that’s how I that was my old way to meet a woman. Just put that horse
1:10:21
in the front yard, you know. But I’m not doing that. Now the horse needs going back. Yeah. Yeah. But I can’t live like that
1:10:28
anymore. Um, what else? You have a movie that’s coming up. Is that true?
1:10:33
Yeah. Reminders of him. Um, reminders of him. Reminders of him. Colleen Hoover. And I
1:10:42
will say I’m I’m very excited about it. It was an opportunity for me to kind of dip my toes a little bit into being
1:10:49
something other than a musician. Mhm. Which was fun. I know you done in uh some Yellowstone, right?
1:10:55
Y was this more like extensive than that or like what was different about it?
1:11:01
Um this I you know it probably took me three or four days to like film my part.
1:11:07
Um and I feel like with Yellowstone because I was in like several different episodes, it was probably like a little
1:11:13
bit more filming. Um but I had fun. I had fun. Like I feel
1:11:19
like I kind of like found myself within the character, you know? Like I I realized that okay, maybe like I don’t
1:11:25
have to be playing music to feel like I can play the character. Um Dang.
1:11:31
Which is cool. Like I might Who knows? Who knows?
1:11:36
I want to do a comedy. Do you? God, that would be good. You’d be so good at it. We should make one
1:11:42
then. Let’s do it. Me and David Spade wrote a movie. It’s almost done. I can’t talk about it anymore on the podcast. We because we’ve talked about it on too many episodes,
1:11:49
but we’re editing it right now. But um is that so fun? It was the editing and stuff’s a nightmare, but it’s fun.
1:11:54
Got it. It’s like a puzzle. You’re like figuring out, okay, we got to move this here. How do we move this? What do we do? So, it’s probably like putting a record
1:12:00
together. Yeah. Yeah. It’s been a big learning experience. It’s been good, I think. But
1:12:05
yeah, you definitely start to see like, oh, I could do more of these or figure out how to do it or create different ones, like funny ideas.
1:12:11
Yep. Are you going to start like a festival back at home or anything? Do you think? Have you thought about that? We’ve talked about it. I mean, we’ve um
1:12:18
like Do you feel like you have to? I guess that becomes like a thing. I definitely like would love to be able
1:12:23
to do something specifically like for my community. You know what I’m saying? Yeah. Um
1:12:30
Yeah. Just, you know, just to like bring in some some more people, some more fans, and like just even last year, we
1:12:36
played a couple shows in Monroe back to back and I heard, you know, that a lot of people had lots of business that
1:12:43
week. And that’s important. I want people to flourish and and do well. Like
1:12:48
these are this is a community that believed in me before anybody did, you know? Yeah.
1:12:54
So, I would love to do something like that at some point, but takes a lot of like I want to do it
1:12:59
right, you know? Yeah. Oh, yeah. It’s got to be right. Yeah. You want to definitely have some
1:13:06
uh crawfish trucks out front. Crawfish trucks. That’d be it. I wonder what your
1:13:11
festival would be called if you had a festival over there. I don’t know. What would it be called?
1:13:16
I don’t know. You got to think. I mean, it’s got to be like a neat critter that’s from the area, I guess. Kind of.
1:13:21
I mean, it could just be the Laney Wilson Festival. No, there’s something cooler.
1:13:26
Well, there’s something probably has a little more critter in it. Yeah, we definitely need a critter. Yeah. I mean, you have a decent amount of critter, it seems like. I’m not
1:13:32
trying to uncritter you or whatever. You kind of uncritter me. I didn’t think I could. Um, dude, did
1:13:40
you ever go on like I remember you told me that you went on this horrible date one time. Um, it was like a Valentine’s Day. Remember we made a little cartoon about it?
1:13:45
Oh, roses are red. Violets are black. Why is your chest as flat as your back?
1:13:51
But dude, it reminded me. So, one time when I was a kid, I stole my mom’s car, bartered, whatever you did. You know,
1:13:56
you’re like 13. And this girl down the street, dude, had
1:14:02
she was just looking pretty good, you know? Uhhuh. And she was like willing to sneak out of
1:14:08
her house at night, right? So, I was like, was she the same age? Yeah, same age. So, I was like, I’m going to go pick her up and we’re going
1:14:14
to go out to this like boat launch area that you can park the car out there and dance a little bit and put on some country music, put on some top 40 or
1:14:21
whatever. You know, they play some strawberry wine or maybe some um I’m trying to think of whatever else.
1:14:27
Maybe some uh John Michael Montgomery. Let’s go. You know, something that’ll just dang
1:14:33
just keep my eyes open, you know. So anyway, pick her up and this girl always wore like a two-piece bathing suit like
1:14:39
because she was on the swim team at school, right? So anyway, but I don’t even know why I said that, but anyway.
1:14:45
Well, I needed the visual. Yeah. Anyway, picked her up. We go out there. We’re listening to some music. A a car comes across the parking lot
1:14:51
bounce goes into the water and starts to sink. Right. We’re the only people. Swear we’re the only people out there.
1:14:58
It goes right off the boat launch and then starts to sink and the headlights are up towards the top of the
1:15:03
water. The car sinks. You are lying. No. And it’s me and her and I’m like, “Oh my god, I’m out here. We stole my I
1:15:09
can’t call the lake. What do I even do? I’m going to get in trouble.” Right. So, did you jump in the water? We run right over there to the thing.
1:15:16
And um I was like, “We got to get we got to do something. You know, some what if somebody’s in there?” Like, we were the
1:15:21
only people out there. And she’s like, “Okay, on the count of three, we’ll jump in.” And I’m like, “Dude, you don’t do
1:15:27
the count of three, dude. If somebody is drowning in a car, you know what I’m saying? Like that is
1:15:33
the worst. One, two. Yeah. You don’t you don’t waste people’s time that are drowning if you can just jump in. Right.
1:15:39
So anyway, she goes I was like, “All right.” She’s like, “No, we have to do it.” I was like, “All right.” So she goes, “One, two, three. I jump. She
1:15:46
doesn’t even jump.” You are lying. And she’s a swimmer. She’s a swimmer. And I’m not that great of a swimmer.
1:15:52
And that’s a life lesson right there. Oh yeah. Yeah. That’s what I’m saying. That’s why you need to pick a woman who
1:15:58
is willing to go that extra mile. That’s it. cuz there’s a lot of these fake ass swim team out there.
1:16:04
But anyway, moving on. Anyway, I reach down in the car. I get under water, reach down in the car, and I feel like
1:16:09
the car seat and stuff. And um they had like one of those like covers on the car seat that was like that fur, you know?
1:16:16
You know, they had the white fur seat cover sometimes. It was like I don’t know. It wasn’t like Dalmatian. It was something nice, you know, or
1:16:22
light. Something fake. It was fake probably. Yeah. But anyway. Yeah. Something like that.
1:16:27
Oh, yeah. Wolf or something. And uh so I touch it and that scared me so much. I thought I
1:16:33
don’t know if it was somebody just like so I start kind of vomit like underwater. I’m like getting sick.
1:16:39
Stop. Get back up above the water. Now I can’t hold my breath to go down, right? Like the car’s completely underwater. So get
1:16:46
out. We run back to the car, drive to this bar that was close by and we started just like we ran inside and
1:16:52
we’re like this car went off into the water. There’s like six people in this bar. They all clear out of there and
1:16:57
then they all run down to they all uh drive down or run down to this to the
1:17:02
dock and people are jumping in the water saying some lady’s name or something got
1:17:08
in my mom’s car left. So you don’t know what happened? Mm-
1:17:13
left one. There was somebody in there, wasn’t it? I don’t know. But how did the like news not come out in
1:17:19
the town or anything? I mean, we were kids, so I don’t think we would have heard it probably cuz we was like, it was more adult stuff.
1:17:26
So, did your mama ever know that you took the car? She does now. She does. Sorry, mama.
1:17:31
Almost saved that woman, mama. And if you’d have let me borrow your freaking car when I have freaking ass, I probably
1:17:36
would have been able to save her. That was it. I wouldn’t had to sneak back home.
1:17:43
But yeah, I think that was something. I’m still thinking about the girl not jumping with you. Oh, it’s unbelievable. You can’t say on the count of three and
1:17:48
then not go. And who has time to do count of three? Somebody’s drowning. You’re like, “All right, one, two.” You
1:17:54
don’t do that. I don’t know what ever happened to her. Dude, there was a beautiful girl in my town that kissed me one time by a fire and then I never ever
1:18:00
ever saw her again. That’s how it goes. God. Uh-huh. Wonder where she’s at. You
1:18:06
remember her? I don’t know. Yes, I remember her. We need to get in touch with her. Ain’t she letting me brush her hair for almost 15 minutes out there?
1:18:15
You literally just had a brush and you were just combing her hair. She brought it. I’m not I’m not that
1:18:20
creepy. Yeah, but I would Yeah, I helped her out. That was my 4. That was your 4. It was
1:18:27
[Laughter] What is this? Oh, did you see Justin Bieber showed up? This fake one.
1:18:32
What you talking about? They had a fake Justin Bieber showed up the other night to where in Las Vegas and everybody thought that
1:18:38
it was him. I’m like, this does not even seem like him.
1:18:44
No, it seems like Chad Hanks just had a long weekend kind of. What in the world?
1:18:50
[Music] But there were literally, I guess, like thousands of people following. Everyone gets scammed is wild.
1:18:58
So many people get scammed nowadays. I just saw the other day that we’re one of the biggest scamming times. What are
1:19:04
some of the biggest online scams? Have they had any Have they had any Laney Wilson impostinators?
1:19:10
Oh my god. I mean, I don’t know about like dressing up like that and whatever, but I’m just talking about like online
1:19:16
in general, like the amount of messages I get about um oh, ticket scamming, all that stuff.
1:19:23
Well, just like people who think that they are like actually in a relationship with me and stuff because like somebody’s pretending to be me.
1:19:30
And so it’s it’s really bad. I’ve ruined a couple marriages on accident. Didn’t even mean to. You didn’t? Yes, I sure did.
1:19:37
Laney. Yeah. They’re like, “My husband of 30 years believes he’s talking to you and
1:19:42
this and that and whatever.” Yes. And I’m like, “Oh, no.” And what do you have to do then? You
1:19:48
can’t call. There’s literally nothing. Like there’s there’s nothing I can do. Um I’m just
1:19:54
besides like telling y’all about it, you know. Yeah. If you are not married to Lanny Wilson, you are not married to Laney
1:20:00
Wilson. So that’s Well, you think it it ought to be that simple, but I mean, I’ve heard I’ve
1:20:06
heard all kind of stuff. I was uh I mean one woman got scammed by a buddy of mine
1:20:12
and she showed up to the show, had her bag packed and everything and was just waiting there
1:20:18
like I’m going I’m going with him and they were like no ma’am. Like but she had been communicating with somebody online
1:20:24
and thought it was him and thought it was him. Dang. So it’s getting that real. But I guess I
1:20:29
would be shocked. How could you think it would go that real online? you know, it’s like a certain what I’ve noticed is
1:20:35
it’s like a certain age group of uh it’s probably like lonely lonely people,
1:20:40
right? Um whether they’re married or not, they’re lonely. And um
1:20:46
and I don’t know, it’s just like they just find like the right person. They must try it to a million people to find the right person to actually convince.
1:20:53
Yeah. You know, and they’re asking for money and they they just uh give them lots of
1:21:00
money. Lots of money. And it’s sad. It is sad.
1:21:06
I just I guess I I mean like I guess I’m trying to think if somebody emailed me and said I am
1:21:13
I’m trying to think of somebody that would really have me just fired up probably. Can’t
1:21:19
even think of anybody off off off top of my head. Probably like a night nurse or whatever. Like a ICU nurse.
1:21:26
Uhhuh. Um no that’s not it. It have to be somebody
1:21:32
f like you know publicly probably. Huh? Somebody that you be like I can’t believe they’re messaging me.
1:21:37
God. Yeah. Who could that be? Maybe Pamela Anderson. Yeah. One of the Spice Girls or
1:21:43
somebody. One of the Spice Girls for sure. Ginger or Baby Spice. Yeah. Or Marger Ram or whatever. Isn’t that one?
1:21:49
Sporty Spice. Oh, Scarlett Johansson. Who else? Johnny
1:21:54
Depp. That’s a man. Um. Uh, I don’t know. None of these
1:22:00
people are doing it for me. Maybe Tom Hanks. Mhm. Yeah. If Tom If Tom sent you an email,
1:22:06
Tom, look, Tom, one of the best actors in the world. But if he said, Theo, I’m in a bind.
1:22:11
Yeah. And I need $200,000. Cuz that’s some of the That’s the crazy amount. It’s not
1:22:18
just like, “Hey, I need a hundred bucks.” Right. People are getting screwed, glued, and
1:22:24
tattooed. I would not say that. I would send him maybe 1,200. I am not send
1:22:30
say God bless you Tom. Yeah. I’m not sending somebody that much money is crazy. Yeah. I don’t know what
1:22:35
goes into the psychology of that. We should talk with somebody and learn about that. What is one of the biggest scams that’s happened online with somebody? But I mean that one with
1:22:42
Justin Bieber’s crazy people thinking that that’s him. Like I remember like Kip Moore got
1:22:47
scammed and there was like a Dr. Phil episode about it. not Kitmore, but um
1:22:52
somebody was getting scammed by somebody pretending to be Kitmore and it was just
1:22:57
like the girl really thought she was, you know, damn in a relationship. Like for real, for real. I’ll have friends that will send me
1:23:03
stuff. It’s like, oh, is this you? And it’s like a fake email or something. It’s like that would be insane if that was me.
1:23:08
Like if you read through this, you know, it had like recipes for things I like for dinner or something. I’m like, who you think I’m going to send
1:23:14
something like that? But I guess yeah, people get caught up. I mean, I’ve fallen for stuff when I was growing up. Ponzi scheme, stuff like
1:23:20
that. So, I guess we’ve all fallen for something. I was trying to buy a French bulldog. You were bit by a French bulldog.
1:23:26
No, I was trying to buy I was trying to buy one. He’s got good taste. I’ll say that.
1:23:33
It’s old French bulldog. And uh I got scammed. Nuh-uh. This is probably about six years ago.
1:23:40
God, that’s now that is not cool cuz they are really cute and you see them
1:23:45
and you just wanted them. And did you see pictures or they also had videos of him? It was just pictures. I mean, I’m a
1:23:50
dumbass for thinking that like I’ve learned a lot. That was definitely my thought.
1:23:57
Really thought it was Jelly Roll. Ohio man says he was scammed by AI video of the singer. A Springfield, Ohio man said
1:24:03
he lost money. I really thought it was Jelly Roll. Uh appeared to be from a
1:24:09
celebrity that happens to be a fan of the message said he won $50,000 on a brand new car. Hm.
1:24:15
I want to see it. Then the account sent a video of the man who appears to be singer songwriter Jelly Roll asking him to cover shipping
1:24:21
to get his prizes. Huh. They’re not linking to the video, but this is the image from the AI generated
1:24:27
video. That is insane. That’s the thing, Theo. Like used to you had to be like, I got
1:24:32
to see it to believe it, right? But now you just got to figure out yourself. You got to have that wisdom
1:24:38
and discernment whether or not to you believe it or not. I mean, there’s been stuff in the past month going on on
1:24:45
about like me and Duck having a baby, getting married. They gave me six fingers on one hand. Uh-uh.
1:24:50
Yeah. Oh, and you say you’re cheating when you’re doing your songs or whatever. Yeah. And then like they put my daddy in
1:24:55
a hospital bed picking his guitar and I was I was in a wedding dress in the hospital room cuz I had to go to him
1:25:03
to get married. And then I showed my daddy the picture and um and he’s like
1:25:09
not pissed about just AI making that rumor up. He’s like, “I got more hair than that?”
1:25:16
I’m like, “Really? That’s what you got to say? I got more hair than that?” Hey, look, if you got it, you got to
1:25:23
keep it. That’s right. That’s right. That’s it. Dang. Yeah. I guess everything’s getting weird out there.
1:25:28
Yeah. But have you met any actual impersonators of you? There is um
1:25:33
there’s a girl in London that actually puts on um she teams up with this guy
1:25:39
who I believe does Luke Holmes. So it’s like her and her name is Georgie I believe. Uh they just like put on these
1:25:45
like co-headlining shows together which is really cool. It’s like a um there she is right there.
1:25:51
That’s pretty cool. The Laney Wilson experience. Um she’s awesome and she’s got the dance moves
1:25:57
and everything down like she does Laney Wilson better than me. She does. That’s got to be pretty flattering. I’m like learning some stuff from her.
1:26:03
You know what I’m saying? She’s got the whole outfit and everything. [Music]
1:26:11
Wow. [Music]
1:26:16
Yeah, it’s pretty cool. A That’s awesome. Pretty cool. That’s pretty cool. Look, she does a cowgirl of a night. She
1:26:23
like she just got it going on. I’m I’m proud for her that she’s like, you know, making a a job out of it, like
1:26:30
Yeah. Seems like a fun job. Oh, that’s pretty special right there. Yep.
1:26:36
Yeah. My niece’s first show that we went to together was your show over there in Baton Rouge. I think it’s probably two years ago. We about to be back in Baton Rouge.
1:26:42
Y’all are? Yeah. Well, then I’m about to have to come. Yeah. Come on. I’d love it. We’re going to be there in September.
1:26:47
Tell your family come on. God, I want that. My sister, my mom’s down there now. She would come.
1:26:53
Yeah. Yeah, a great idea. I’ll bring her. Come on. Thank you. I’ll have to. Um Oh, I saw
1:27:01
that they just opened up your exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame. Yes.
1:27:06
Did you go see it yet? I did go see it. It was wild. My mama kept everything. She kept my baby
1:27:13
blanket. She kept this little like plastic star that went like on the wreath the day I was born and it said, “A star was born today.”
1:27:20
You’re lying. No. So, they were betting on you. They were like, “She got to do it. Lord help us.”
1:27:26
God, honey. Yes. It’s so cool because I really got to like kind of zoom out and you know,
1:27:33
it looked like a bunch of tiny little steps like everything I’ve done since I was just young. And then like me
1:27:39
impersonating Hannah Montana, all that stuff. That’s my journals. I wrote Tim McGraw a letter when I was 18 and was
1:27:46
like, “All I need is a shot and I can do the rest.”
1:27:51
You did? And I still have never met Tim McGro. I think I need to send him the letter now. Well, I think you guys will probably
1:27:57
make a movie sometime soon. I’d like that. But yeah, is that you right there?
1:28:02
That’s me. My god. That’s me on a good day. I thought it was your stunt double from England again. Uhhuh. That’s Georgie.
1:28:09
Yeah, that’d be so good. You start sending her to spend time with your family. I mean, honestly,
1:28:15
they might like her better than me. Laney, that’s so cool. It’s cool. And that’s in the Country Music Hall of
1:28:21
Fame. Yes. It’s like everything I’ve like ever done for me like being able to
1:28:27
look at it with my parents and I mean because they worked their butt off so I could do what I was doing and they when
1:28:34
I tell you Theo they believed in me. They they’re they’re the kind of people who
1:28:40
are they’re real realistic. You know what I’m saying, right? Like people don’t those kind of things like don’t
1:28:46
happen in our area but for some crazy reason they’re like no this is what she
1:28:51
gonna do like this is like we know it and they help me do whatever I mean whether it was like helping me buy my
1:28:56
camper trailer or um if there was like a singing competition
1:29:02
somewhere in another state or whatever I was like wanting to sign up for it and like mama would take me and um Betty
1:29:09
would pay for the gas you know like it was just like a team effort. So it’s
1:29:14
cool just to see everything come from it and it it’s just awesome. Yeah. Well, parents just want to be
1:29:20
proud of their children, right? And so I think, you know, and parents get proud of their children if they see them do something small or big, I think, you
1:29:26
know, and so I’m sure even just to have a like to have something like that where so much of your child is kind of like
1:29:32
recorded and and has some pro, you know, and in a museum. That’s damn.
1:29:37
I know. I said I ain’t never been more proud that my mama was a hoarder. Yeah. But she kept it.
1:29:45
Oh, it’s beautiful. They were trying to send this tractor tire swing that we like used to swing
1:29:51
on. We were I’m talking about this tractor tire swing was like this big around. They’re like, “No, we don’t we don’t need that.” My dad’s like, “No,
1:29:57
y’all take it on up there.” They’re just trying to clean up the house. You know what they’re doing? Yeah. Yeah. There’s this a stack of your dad’s
1:30:04
old pants. You’re like, “What the hell?” Oh, just take them up there to Nashville. the uh exhibit just morphs
1:30:09
into a garage sale. What? Um I know your bell bottom pants.
1:30:16
I remember being at your show and seeing all these like uh girls and some men wearing different kind of lany bottom
1:30:22
style pants, right? Do you have a brand that’s pants now or like did that become like a thing? So, I
1:30:28
actually have a um partnership with Wrangler, which is so much fun because we get to do like we have like our fall
1:30:36
collections and then we’ll have some stuff for the winter and then we do spring and summer. It’s just fun. It’s like another way for me to be creative.
1:30:43
But we actually just launched a boot line too called Golden West and really
1:30:49
was inspired from really just like when I think of songwriting and how I’ve kind
1:30:54
of learned how to write a song. I feel like I’ve been given the opportunity to write with such
1:31:00
incredible writers, they’ve kind of taught me how to step into other people’s shoes and like tell a story
1:31:05
from their perspective. Um, yeah. Oh, there we go. There they are. There’s the somewhere
1:31:10
over Laredo boots. Those top two right there are are bestsellers right now. Really? Yep. It’s fun.
1:31:17
People are wearing these little boots now. What is that called? That little booty. That’s a shorty.
1:31:23
Shorty. Yeah. I’ve been seeing those. We’re going to find you a nurse and we
1:31:29
going to get her a pair of boots. Yeah. We going to hook her up. Couple Appaloosas right there. Uh-huh.
1:31:35
Heck yeah. And tell her she can take them boots on out of town if she won’t keep it together. Quit.
1:31:40
Never mind. She can come back at least once. Okay, that’s what I’m saying. At least once.
1:31:46
Golden West. Oh, I like those. Yeah, they got some different styles.
1:31:51
Proud. We’re excited and it’s doing really well already and I’m just excited to like continue.
1:31:58
Are they only online or people can get them in some stores too? Um, only online right now. So,
1:32:04
okay. Yep. Well, and then we’re just going to continue like dropping, you know, dropping some
1:32:10
and and see what happens. But it’s going in a great direction. How do you start to feel about your that
1:32:15
you have the possibility to think that your best songs are still ahead of you? You know, I know with comedians, you start to think like, man, I’ll never
1:32:21
have a bit that’s as good as that, you know? Um, how does that affect an artist? Like,
1:32:27
what’s that like for you in your world? I mean, because you’ve had some, you know, you have a lot of great music. You’ve had some that have been bigger
1:32:32
hits than others. That’s just the way it goes. But do you does that like what is that like? Do you have fears like that
1:32:37
ever? You know, I mean it’s absolutely like crossed my mind because I think just like being human in general that
1:32:43
probably crosses everybody’s mind, you know, even like getting out of a relationship like I’ll never love
1:32:48
anybody else as much as you know. Yeah. But I think uh I keep like shocking
1:32:54
myself or like surprising myself and being like we ain’t done. We it I really do feel
1:33:00
like we’re really just getting started. Like even the songs that I’ve been writing in the past 6 months for the
1:33:07
next record, I feel like we keep um leveling up and I
1:33:12
don’t really know how that happens by the grace of God. So he’s uh delivering.
1:33:20
Amen. Yep. Yeah, I believe it. I think Yeah, it’s those moments because there’s days where you’ll feel like, okay, everything’s
1:33:26
being perfect or I’ll feel this way. Everything’s on the right path. And there’s days where I feel like, man, I’m on a detour right now, you know? And I
1:33:33
think just trying to like uh tune like almost like you’re using a tuner for a radio dial is trying to tune my heart
1:33:39
in, you know? That’s right. It’s like positioning yourself. I’m learning that. Yeah. It’s like positioning yourself so you
1:33:45
can be and also like getting rid of the things in your mind that are like
1:33:51
stopping you or preventing you from finding whatever that next like great joke is or great song. You know what I’m
1:33:57
saying? Like you got to get rid of those roadblocks in order to to find them. Yeah. And sometimes the roadblocks are people.
1:34:05
Sometimes it’s just like a Sometimes it’s Yeah. a damn roadblock. It’s an actual roadblock literally. And you’re just sitting there
1:34:11
waiting for them to turn the sign around, you know? You just But no, you’re right. Sometimes it’s
1:34:17
people. Sometimes it’s uh a habit. A habit, dude. A habit.
1:34:23
How many people have not had pro made certain amazing things happen because of a bad habit? Probably.
1:34:30
God, I know it’s that’s
1:34:35
I just want to get tuned in. Just the Lord FM, honey. That’s what I need. That’s it. The Lord FM. Just reset.
1:34:41
Let me know when that’s a station cuz I’m I’m gonna tune in, too. Okay. Reset my dial. Uh tell Mr. Hodges
1:34:48
we said hello. I will. Yeah. Appreciate it. Come see us. Yeah. Yeah, I’m going to try to come see you there down there in Baton Rouge again. That’d be great. And uh yeah,
1:34:55
thanks for all the beautiful music. Congratulations. And thanks for coming and just chatting with me about Louisiana. Thank you. Yep.
1:35:00
This is fun. Oh yeah. Congratulations, Laney Wilson. Best of luck. Yeehaw. Now I’m just floating on the breeze and
1:35:07
I feel I’m falling like these leaves. I must be corner stone.
1:35:15
Oh, but when I reach that ground, I’ll share this peace of mind I found. I can
1:35:21
feel it in my [Music]
