Originally from Whitman, Massachusetts, List began his comedy career in Boston in 2000, just after graduating high school. He quickly rose in the comedy world, earning spots on major shows like The Late Show with David Letterman, Conan, and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. In 2015, he was a finalist on NBC’s Last Comic Standing and landed his own half-hour Comedy Central special.

In 2022, he co-wrote and starred in the comedy-drama film Fourth of July, directed by Louis C.K., and in 2024 directed and appeared in the documentary Tom Dustin: Portrait of a Comedian.
In his personal life, List has been sober since 2012 and married comedian Sarah Tollemache in 2017. Known for his neurotic comedic style, Joe List continues to entertain audiences live, on screen, and through his various podcast projects.
